It will often be accompanied by codes P, PPetc…. Fixing P should be considered a high priority. It also can cost money to ignore it, since driving with a misfire can damage the vehicles catalytic converter. The engine is also not firing all of the fuel, so raw fuel is also passing through Cylinder 4 into the exhaust. Mileage may suffer as well when your CTS has P as well. P is a cylinder specific misfire code, which means that Cylinder 4 is misfiring and causing the code.
Here are the most common problems that will throw the code. They are presented somewhat in order from most to least likely to be causing the code:. If you follow the items listed above you should be able to fix the P Inspect and test the parts of the ignition system around the cylinder to determine whether or not you need to replace the coil packs, plugs, or wires. Most of the time one of those three things will end up being the problem. You need to reset the trouble codes and swap the coil pack, wire, and plug from Cylinder 4 to another.
After that, Go ahead and replace them or have them tested. After that you would want to test the fuel injection system. P is cause for concern and left unfixed can leave you stranded or make the vehicle virtually un-drivable.
Fixing the problem causing the code to fire can save you time and money and keep your Cadillac CTS from breaking down. Quick action may also save your catalytic converter from going bad. Good luck diagnosing the issue.

There will always be symphony missfires what we call, sort of like symphony labor pains the male gets when his wife is pregnant. Look for the one that has the highest misfires if you are able to look at History misfires. Go with the 50, misses cylinder. The miss cylinder is generally the symphony cylinder or the one that fires right after the cylinder that is actually missing. The PCM is trying to compensate so that is why it bleeds over to the next cylinder.
But if they are extremely close together as for in miss increments, you may have a different issue such as head gasket if they are adjacent to each other, other no power or ground if they are a complete bank is down. You wouldn't have those numbers of misfires would you??? Most of the times, under load with the Caddy's I messed with like the Devilles, it is always the coil pak. If the vehicle runs well after resetting the codes, this is almost assuredly what has happened. In many Cadillac models, especially 4- and 6-cylinder cars, this is not unusual when the wrong grade of gasoline was used or ethanol is included in the mix unexpectedly or at higher concentrations than the car is rated to handle such as E15 in an older GM vehicle rated for E10 or lower.
If, however, the P code comes back — or if there are symptoms of a random misfire problem stalling, sluggish acceleration, rough idle — there are several things you can check. The good news is that a P code is almost never indicative of a serious problem. Still, this code should be addressed quickly. Jason also works with GMPartsOnline. See their website for more info. After changing the spark plugs and doing everything else in my power to fix the problem, I finally brought to my local independent mechanic where they pulled the codes P, P,P,and P Which basically means one whole bank of the engine was misfiring.
After doing a compression test and pulling the heads off they found 4 bent valves and 4 teeth sheared from the camshaft gear, so they sent it their machine shop to have the heads rebuilt. While getting the parts ordered my mechanic ran across a Cadillac TSB describing this same issue in models and Cadillac has put together a kit to fix this problem, which is essentially new fully loaded heads camshafts, valves, etc.2004 Cadillac cts injector 3 not working
If someone is having a similar problem they may want to take a look at Cadillac's TSB to see if they qualify. As of right now Cadillac has done nothing for me and the only thing that their customer care has told me was to bring it to a dealer for diagnoses. I am assuming that they are going to tell me that there is nothing that they will do because the work was not preformed by them but I am prepared to take this as far as I can go. The mechanic has saved all the parts and if anyone is interested I can post the pictures as soon as I get them back.

There was not cam teeth missing this was told to me wrong but they found abnormal wear on the teeth caused by chain failure resulting in valve to piston contact and 11 bent valves and 2 broken exhaust guides.I drove, accelerated a little on the road and after stop and starting eninge again, then computer in the service showed that 2,4 and 6 are misfiring.

By monitoring variations in the crankshaft rotation speed for each cylinder, the ECM can detect individual cylinder misfire events. Extreme cylinder misfire events can cause catalytic converter damage.
The malfunction indicator lamp MIL will flash when the conditions for catalytic converter damage are present. When the ECM detects that one or more specific cylinders are misfiring, the DTC for the respective misfiring cylinder will set, and up to 2 of the corresponding fuel injectors are disabled for a minimum of 30 s.
The ECM will then re-enable the fuel injector and, after approximately engine revolutions, will determine if the misfire is still present. If the misfire is still present, the ECM will disable the fuel injector again repeating the process. If the misfire is not present, the fuel injector will remain enabled by the ECM.
